Family Tree Clinic

Volunteer

Family Tree Clinic was founded by volunteers and community activists in 1971 to address health inequities. Volunteers started this work and volunteers continue to be an integral part of our clinic, the patient experience and our outreach efforts.

We have two volunteering opportunities available at Family Tree Clinic: welcome desk and outreach (event tabling) volunteering.

As a welcome desk volunteer, you’ll greet people and direct people to their appointments or meetings. You’re the first warm welcome that patients and visitors encounter as they enter Family Tree Clinic!

Commitment

We’re seeking dedicated individuals for recurring weekly or biweekly shifts, each lasting between 1.5 to 2.5 hours. Before diving into your role, we ensure you’re well-equipped with a comprehensive orientation and shadowing experience. We are looking for volunteers to start ASAP.

What We Seek

We’re looking for people who are passionate about sexual and reproductive healthcare and education that is trans affirming. Your warmth, friendliness, and effective communication are your strengths. Punctuality and clear communication are key in this role.

Requirements and Accessibility

Volunteers will need to pass a basic background check. You’ll be stationed at an adjustable riser desk and provided a computer. Our facility is wheelchair accessible and has gender neutral bathrooms. We also have accessible parking, a bike rack, and are located on the D and 18 bus lines. Masks are required on Wednesdays (surgical and Kn95 masks are provided).

As an outreach volunteer, or event tabling volunteer, you and a teammate or two will set up a table at a community event and share information about Family Tree’s services and resources and hand out swag.

Outreach volunteering, or tabling, is when you + a teammate or two set up a station at an event like a health fair or a local pride festival to share information, resources, and swag with the community. You’ll offer community members resources, engage in a conversation about Family Tree Clinic (FTC) services, or offer coloring kits to kiddos! Tabling is a great way to get the word out about Family Tree and the MN Sexual Health Hotline (our free and confidential state-wide hotline that answers sexual and reproductive health-related questions), be a presence in the community, and have fun!
