Trichomoniasis

This “trichy” infection can cause a fish-like odor and abnormal vaginal discharge. Trichomoniasis doesn’t usually cause problems in people who have a penis, however. We test for it with a vaginal swab and will usually give a person 2 doses of medicine — one for them and one for their partner.

There usually aren’t any symptoms, and without treatment it can increase a person’s chances of getting or spreading other STIs.

People who are pregnant and have trichomoniasis can deliver premature (early) or low birth weight babies.
