Family Tree Clinic History
During the 1970's, neighborhoods established a network of community clinics throughout the Twin Cities to provide accessible, low-cost health care to individuals and families. In 1971 a group of neighborhood activist, public health officials and Macalester College staff and students began planning to address the health care needs of the thousands of young adults living, working and going to school in the Macalester/Groveland area of St. Paul. Family Tree Clinic was the result of that planning. From the beginning the Board of Directors expressed a strong interest in providing community health education as well as medical care. Family Tree Clinic’s continuing mission is to cultivate a healthy community through comprehensive sexual health care and education.
Over the years, Family Tree has become the largest provider of reproductive health care in Ramsey County. A community Board of Directors oversees the operation of the clinic. Clinical staff include a family practice physician, nurse practitioners, and a physician assistant.
