What’s up at the Tree

  • Thanks to all who attended Arborfest 2008! Family Tree Clinic’s annual beer-tasting fundraiser was a big success yet again. We had over 30 craft beer vendors, and over 400 attendees. Thanks again to all who came out to support the clinic and our mission to provide affordable, confidential, respectful reproductive and sexual health care. Because Your Sexual Health Matters!!
  • Check out Ms. Magazine online for an article featuring our very own, recently retired, Peg Labore, former Executive Director at Family Tree. The article, published August 20th, is called “Minnesota to Cut Birth Control Costs in Half.” Peg and others have been lobbying hard for opportunities to get cheaper birth control out to the vast amounts of women who need it.   • Family Tree participated in the 2007 Headwaters Walk for Justice in September. Our team raised over $3,000! The Walk for Justice is an inclusive fundraising and publicity event in support of community-based non-profit organizations in Minnesota that work on a variety of issues, including social, racial, economic, and environmental injustice. 368 New HIV Cases Confirmed in 2009; Highest Number in 17 Years

According to statistics released today by the Minnesota Department of Health, 368 confirmed new cases of HIV were reported in Minnesota during 2009. The 368 new cases are the highest seen in 17 years. The Minnesota AIDS Project, the leading source for HIV information and services in Minnesota, believes that this data underscores its view that HIV prevention and education is at a critical point if we are to stop the increase in new cases.
