We are dedicated to education as a tool for prevention. Family Tree offers comprehensive community outreach education services around the metro and statewide. We have a community education department that focuses on teaching comprehensive sex ed classes in community settings, colleges, and to youth in corrections and a health education department that serves the Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing Community.
We are leaders in the reproductive and sexual health care field. We champion sexuality education and advocate for reproductive and sexual rights, including a woman’s right to choose. Family Tree Clinic was founded by Macalester College students and teachers, health professionals and community leaders in 1971. Their goal was to serve the thousands of teens and adults in the area neglected by the traditional health care system. From the beginning our founders based their philosophy of care on the needs of the community, including maintaining a volunteer Board of Directors. Many of those who serve on our board are patients, community members and health care professionals. Our Board of Directors and founders brought a unique perspective to the field of family planning health care – they put an emphasis on education and outreach.
Today, in addition to our clinical services, Family Tree is proud to offer community education programs, education services for the Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing, rewarding volunteer opportunities, and a strong focus on accessibility. We work to keep our services accessible, confidential and affordable and to stay involved in the community. Family Tree is now the largest provider of reproductive health care in Ramsey County. To this day addressing the needs of the community is our biggest inspiration and goal.
